Royal Enfield has established a partnership with Helmets For India, a non-profit organisation, to address the problem of low helmet usage on two-wheelers in India.
After a trip to India in 2018, Niels-Peter Jensen, a German filmmaker, TV broadcaster, and ardent motorcyclist, founded Helmets For India. During his visit, he saw a two-wheeler accident involving an adult and a child, neither of whom was wearing a helmet.
Jensen was so moved by the tragedy that he started Helmets For India, which has subsequently held various awareness campaigns around India and even undertook a road journey from Mumbai to Goa, donating over 300 helmets.
Rather of pressuring riders to wear helmets, the idea tries to develop an organic attraction to them. Jensen has done this by collaborating with a number of artists from around the world to make bespoke helmets that he has displayed throughout his campaigns in India. These helmets will be auctioned later this year, with the proceeds going to a yet-to-be-determined Indian NGO.
Jensen and his colleagues will ride 1,000 kilometres from the Royal Enfield Garage Cafe in Goa to Kanyakumari for another Helmets For India event.
