The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan will be launched in India this year, according to Mercedes-Benz. According to sources, the next-generation W206 C-Class, which debuted worldwide in mid-2021, might hit dealerships as soon as May 2022. In a recent interview with Autocar India, Martin Schwenk, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, stated that the fifth-generation sedan will be available "in 2022." He stated that the C-Class will be a high-volume vehicle that will contribute to the company's planned double-digit sales growth this year.
Mercedes-Benz India maintained its lead in the premium car market last year, selling 11,242 vehicles. According to Schwenk, the outgoing C-Class had "a significant volume in 2021." "I'm confident that the new C-Class will serve its role and help to push up volumes," he continued.
"We got a lot of mileage out of the existing C-Class," Schwenk said. The German marque is lacking a crucial component in its lineup, with stocks of the exiting model nearly depleted. "We won't preserve that gap for much longer," Mercedes CEO said, implying that the introduction of the new C-Class isn't far off. "We need to coordinate our launches with the COVID waves," he continued. So, let's see what happens."
Almost a year ago, the latest-generation C-Class had its world debut. The wheelbase and overall length of the W206 model have been increased by 25mm and 65mm, respectively, providing extra cabin space. The C-Class has been updated to match the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz cars, including the new S-Class limousine, with sharper looks and new technology, including a big, tablet-style touchscreen infotainment system.
The new C-Class is powered solely by electrified four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines worldwide. And, while it's unclear which powertrains will be introduced to our market, the company's 48V mild-hybrid technology could be added to the India lineup as well. For context, the outgoing sedan offered two 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines – a 204hp turbo-petrol (C200) and a 194hp diesel (C220d) – with prices ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 51.74 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The new Mercedes-Maybach S 580 limousine will be produced at the company's Chakan plant near Pune, as we revealed a year ago. Now the automaker has verified the news. In a media contact, Schwenk revealed, "We are releasing the (new) Maybach S-Class and have planned it for March this year."
The Maybach S-Class (codename: Z223) is 180mm longer than the long-wheelbase S-Class sedan (V223) offered in the United States. The iconic Maybach grille, centre chrome fin on the bonnet, chrome highlights on the bumpers, 34-spoke alloy wheels, Maybach insignias on the C-pillars, and available two-tone body paint are all features that help it stand out.
The Maybach has all the trappings of a luxury limousine on the inside, including unique materials and finishes, as well as individual "Executive" back seats with a "Chauffeur package" as standard.
The S 580 is powered by a 500hp twin-turbo V8 petrol engine with 48V mild hybrid technology and four-wheel drive. The model is expected to cost around Rs 2.5 crore (estimated, ex-showroom).
